Happy St. Patrick’s Day

I made this cute “Pinch Me” decoration for a hostess gift. Liked it so well I almost bought a bottle of wine so I could keep it….but she loved it! (Yes, the “i” is upside down in the picture.  It’s tax season…what can I say?)  Have a fun and safe day everyone!

Gettin’ Inky with Dyan

It was so much fun to spend a weekend learning to work with ink from the incredible Dyan Reavely, designer for Ranger Industries.  She has the most delightful English accent and in addition to working with Ranger, has a store and teaches in England.IMG_0664I really need to do a little more practicing with using the sprays….haven’t quite mastered the technique, but I had fun trying!

inky handI really wanted to practice what I had learned so used a few of the inking, ghosting, and stenciling techniques to make a birthday card for my daughter.

P1030609Definitely outside of my comfort zone (which is much more shabby chic and pastel) but this is really crazy fun!!

Gearing Up

It has been forever since I’ve had a chance to make any cards, and my supply is totally depleted.  So, I’m going through my calendar and trying to get cards made for birthdays coming up.  The design for this “guy” card I found on Pinterest some time ago and decided to use for the first two birthdays – my great brother-in-law and nephew:

Gear Card 2

This card used the TIm Holtz Riveted Metal embossing folder, Sizzix
Spritely Sprockets die set, and a Stampin’ Up sentiment from Sketched
Birthdays.  I used Black Archival Ink for stamping and distressing the gears.
And, of course, a few little pearls – my favorite bling!

Life is Better in Flip Flops

One of the things on my Wish List for the MegaMeet in Novi, MI last weekend was Stephanie Bernard’s flipflops2stamp and the matching dies.  I’m usually not a big whimsical fan, but these are the cutest!  The flip flops and waves are stamped and cut with four of the dies that come in the die set.  I added a little freehand scribbling on the starfish to give them a little more detail.  For the card base, I used her Flip-Its Rectangle #2 die.  The paper is This and That Epic Day by Stampin’ Up that is one of my favorites and the waves and sentiments are stamped in Early Espresso to match the brown base of the flip flops!   The center of the card flips to the back when opened and has a happy birthday sentiment.  Glad that most of my relatives don’t follow my blog because there are going to be lots of these for birthday cards this summer!

For all you Project Life fans or if you have ever wanted to try an easy and fun way of memory keeping, Stampin’ Up has teamed up with Becky Higgins for some exclusive Project Life kits that are truly amazing and match the SU papers and ink.

Flower Shop Birthday Card

I’m officially in charge of birthday celebrations at work…so like it or not, everyone gets a handmade card.  Its been a very long winter here, and the ground is covered with new snow as I post this – so I really wanted something that said SPRING!!!!  I brayered the paper under the hexagon hive die cut with Strawberry Slush and Pistachio Pudding.  Tomorrow is April 15th, which means the craziness at work will be ending…I don’t want to see another tax return for a LONG time.  Think SPRING!

Stamps:  Flower Shop, Petite Petals, Perfectly Penned, Hardwood
Dies:  Hexagon Hive
Punches:  Pansy, Petite Petal

Making Art with Wendy Vecchi

Had the opportunity to “make art” with Wendy Vecchi, designer for Ranger Industries, over the weekend at Craft Fancy in Arlington Heights (Chicago).  What a fabulous two days.  Day One was technique day – packed full of information using tons of different products.  Day Two was a chance to use some of those techniques to make the most amazing journal using lots of Wendy’s Art Parts, stamps, stencils and embossing pastes.

This is my poor index finger after two days of  using the blending tool…a huge blister.  Now I know why you hold the SIDES of the blending tool!  It was an extraordinary weekend!  Wendy is just a dear and so talented.  Here’s a link to Wendy’s blog here.

Stencil Embossing Love

Not sure how many of you are participating in Tim Holtz’s Creative Chemistry 102, but Day 2 was all about stencils. Now I admit to being stencil obsessed, but when you can’t draw a straight line, the things you can do with stencils are amazing. Tim showed a technique yesterday of sketching with the stencils. If you are a little on the OCD side and can’t handle hand lettering, you will LOVE this!

For my stenciling card I used the embossed stenciling technique with Distress Ink and Wendy Vecchi’s clear embossing paste. I love this tree stencil and decided it would make a fallish, bright and happy anniversary card. I used some fabulous Stampin’ Up’s Designer Series Paper Stacks and a Very Vanilla and Cajun Craze for the card base layers.  Photo is not great….next project to work on.   Stenciled Tree

Baby Tees Side-Step

My cousin and his wife are expecting their first child – a little girl – and we had a delightful shower this weekend with the best dessert table ever! This baby dresser card uses the SU Baby Tees wheel.  I stamped, picked the Tee I wanted to use, and fussy cut it out for the card.   The clothes rack is from the SU All Dressed Up set.  Here is a link to a great tutorial that I used as a guide to make it.  http://jackietopa.typepad.com/addicted_to_stamping/2010/07/side-step-dresser-tutorial.html

Best Creative Weekend Ever!

When I found out that Tim Holtz was going to be at the Michigan Mega Meet, I decided I was taking advantage of soaking up as much from his demoing as I possibly could in three days. At the risk of being accused of stalking, I spent a lot of time observing. It is difficult to explain how genuinely talented, humorous and charismatic he is…can you tell I’m a fan!
Tim & Kaye

And then…to complete the weekend, Wendy Vecchi was demoing also, and I spent a couple of hours watching her artistry. I’ve been collecting their products forever but just not sure of myself to do anything much with them.

Well…I opened the stamps and took the     tops off the embossing paste and dry glitter. TH Cupcake Sketch3. I saw a sample at the GLMM and another one on Wendy Vecchi’s site that I used as inspiration.

Now about my photography skills…you can’t really see the raised layers here, but the elements were all raised above the card base. Took me forever…but so much fun!

Delightful Swallowtail

Love this Swallowtail stamp. It’s actually a background stamp, but deserves center stage! Isn’t she a beauty? I can’t find the link to the card that inspired this one, but I’m pretty sure it was a post on Splitcoast Stampers. The butterfly was stamped on First Edition DSP with Midnight Muse ink and highlighted with some Crystal Effects. 012
